I live in Germany and recently purchased a Sky Digibox from a company in London. They now say i need a uk address for the Sky Viewing Card contract. Why didnt they tell me that before I bought the digibox?
Its called "sharp practice" You can purchase a Sky Digibox at any time from Solsat and we can supply the Viewing Card switched on activated and ready to go, the day it arrives with your digibox. or you can rent a viewing card from Solsat anytime after you purchased your digibox from us. (As long as its a minimum 12 months)
Ive just received my new digibox and viewing card from Solsat and nothings working not even the viewing card. Whats wrong?
Dont Panic. If you are using an existing satellite dish previously installed for analogue then you will need to have this dish realigned to Astra 2d satellite at 28.2 degrees east.Once the dish is correctly aligned and looking at the right satellite everything will be fine.Dont forget to insert the viewing card the correct way around in the "Sky viewing card"slot on the Digibox.
Ive just received my new digibox and viewing card fom Solsat and everythings working fine .The only problem is we have perfect picture but no sound.Whats wrong?
Dont Panic. The Sky Digiboxes are designed and built for the UK market and UK televisions. You have installed your digibox using the UHF leads. Disconnect these leads and use the Euro Lead (or scart lead) we have sent you with the digibox that will give perfect picture and sound with your European television. Use an additional second Euro lead between your new digibox and your existing VCR video recorder for perfect recording.
Ive just received my new digibox and viewing card from Solsat and nothings working not even the viewing card My Spanish(German,French,Italian,Swedish,Austrian etc) engineer has connected his own personal digital receiver up to the dish and its working fine he has shown me all the Sky News,CNN and free German Digital channels on his digibox. He says my digibox is faulty.Whats wrong?
Dont Panic. If your engineer has connected his digital receiver to the dish and he is showing you all the German Channels etc then the dish is still pointing at the wrong satellite.Sky Digital is broadcast from the Astra 2a satellite at 28 degrees east.A sure fire way to ensure the dish is correctly aligned is to ask your engineer to show you the BBC Parliament Channel on his digital receiver. There are Absolutely No German Channels on Astra 2a.
Ive just received my new Sky+ digibox and viewing card from Solsat and even though the viewing card is inserted in the slot I cant receive any of the encrypted channels. Whats wrong?
Dont Panic. You have installed the viewing card in the only slot visible to you from the front panel. This is the interactive slot and is the wrong one. Pull gently on the cover below the card slot and it will drop down revealing the Sky Viewing Card slot behind the Protection Cover!
I received my Sky digibox from Solsat 3 days ago and now my Spanish (German,French,Austrian,Swedish,Greek.Portugese, etc) engineer whose been here for 2 days is convinced the Sky digibox is faulty. We are definetely on the Astra 2a satellite as i have seen BBC Parliament on the engineers digibox. Whats wrong?
Dont panic.Any existing or new Solsat client can telephone us directly and we will offer you or your english speaking engineer a range of test options to confirm correct operation of the Sky digibox and viewing card. There is no charge for this service when you telephone during normal working hours.
I live in Switzerland,Austria,Greece,Italy,Hungary,Turkey,Cyprus,Spain,Sweden,Poland,I have a Sky Digibox I can receive Sky News and a few other channels but I still cannot receive the free BBC channels, whats wrong?
Your satellite dish is too small to receive the BBC Channels where you are. You will need to increase your dish size to receive the BBC Channels. Its difficult for us to estimate what size dish you will need. However if you have a look at
http://www.astra2d.co.uk and click on the "Astra 2D reports" link you may see information on dish size required for where you live.
My neighbour has the same dish size as me but they can receive the BBC Channels fine but my digibox says "No Satellite Signal" when i tune to the BBC Channels. Why is that?
Its one of three possible reasons. A) Your neighbours satellite dish has a better lnb and is more accuraltely aligned as well as the dish being more accurately aligned. Your dish may need to be installed or realigned more accurately.B) Your neighbour has a better and more sensitive digibox than you. If you have a first generation digibox such as an all black colour Pace or Grundig digibox then you may need to upgrade. C) A combination of both the above
I have a Nokia Mediamaster (Humax,Phillips,Echostar,Samsung,Strong,Starlight,Manhattan,Technisat etc etc.)Digital Satellite decoder will a Sky Digital Viewing Card work in my set top box?
Sorry. Sky Digital Viewing cards only work in Sky Digiboxes. The encryption format Videoguard is not available in CAM format for use in any other digital satellite receiver decoders. To confirm if you have a suitable set top box look for a card slot with the words "Sky viewing card" above,if so then youre in business.
I contacted Solsat about a Supply and Fit quotation for a Full Sky Digital System some time ago. However I thought you were expensive so I used a local supplier/installer. My problem now is that I cannot receive half my channels I can't get hold of my local man any more and when I contact Solsat they refer me to my supplier.
Solsat give preferential treatment to all their existing clients and we also honour any guarantees on products and services, most reputable companies will do the same.We will have a happy client living near you. If your undecided on your supplier don't hesitate to contact us for details of a local clients of ours that is near where you live,or see our
testimonials webpage and look for your country flag.
What is the difference between analogue and digital satellite services?
With Digital Transmissions the quality of the picture and sound are considerably improved.CD quality sound is available for all sound tracks on digital service and is particularly noticeable on the many radio stations and film channel sound tracks.More on screen information can be packed into a digital transmission such as programme description, start times and content all accessible by the viewer using the interactive remote control at any time.
What equipment do I need to receive Sky Digital?
Quite simply if you have an existing satellite system you need to change the set top box in your lounge and then depending on your geographical location either have a skilled technician to realign your existing dish to the Astra Digital broadcasts or replace the satellite dish completely.Basically the rule of thumb is that if your south of Barcelona and want to receive the Film Channels then your going to need a new 1.2mtr satellite dish.If youre not particularly interested in the films but would like to receive the Sky Sports 1,2,3 UK Gold History Channel etc then you may be able to carry on using your existing satellite dish.If thats the case have a look at our Skky Digital Family Pack Channels on the
Channel List Page.
Will I need a new Sky Card?
Yes...If you have an old Sky Analogue System then you will need to replace your settop box with a Sky Digibox and use a new Sky Digital Viewing Card in the new Sky Digibox. If you would like Solsat to supply you with a Sky Digibox and a Sky Digital Viewing Card then we can do that for you.Once Solsat supply you with a Sky Digital Viewing card it will not need to be changed every month,it will work for the duration of your viewing card contract.
Will I need to Change my Television?
No...Not unless you want to.As long as your existing television has a "Euroconnector" or scart socket then it will be ok.However it seems a shame to install new upto date technology such as digital satellite and watch it on a 10 year old television.
Will I still get radio2?
Yes..and hundreds of other free to air CD quality sound radio stations as well.

I am living outside the reception area for the Astra satellite what size dish will I need ?
It depends on exactly where you are. We have reports of clients in the Canary Islands needing a 2.4mtr diameter dish to receive the Astra north beam.If you are in northern Scandinavia or Russia or the Eastern mediterranean then we recommend the Channel Master 1.8mtr offset groundmounted satellite dish. Channel Master are the "Rolls Royce" of satellite dishes and all models and sizes of Channel Master dishes beat the competition hands down when it comes to getting hold of and keeping those weak signals. If you are considering a 1.8mtr Channel Master then ask about our adobe pdf file on the dish.
We asked Solsat to recommend a dish size for us to use in Southern Greece. The dish is installed and even though its a 1.8mtr dish we still cant get half the channels we need.Whats the problem?
Please see the question above.A prime focus 1.8mtr dish is simply not suitable for reception of Sky marginal channels. We always recommend the Channel Master dish which is a offset dish, and has easier interchangeability of lnb when installing the dish. Not all universal lnb have the same frequency response charachteristics and you may need to experiment with several different makes and types of universal lnb before all channels are receivable. There is only a limited number of lnb makes and types for a prime focus dish style installation which reduces the installers options when adjusting lnb etc to bring in all the channels required. You get what you pay for basically, and messing around for days on end with an inferior 1.8mtr tin or fibre glass dish will end in suicide, murder or worse divorce...

I live in an apartment on the Costa Blanca (Madrid,Barcelona,Paris,Munich etc.)and its not possible to have a 1.2mtr dish on my patio although I do have an 80cm dish can I still receive Sky Digital ?
Yes you can although the number of channels presently available is reduced with a smaller dish in southern Europe. You will be ok anywhere north of Barcelona in the rest of Europe for the majority of Sky Channels with a smaller dish.Have a look atthe Family pack Options on the
Channel List page.
I do not live in a Eu Country (Norway) can I still order a digibox and Viewing card from Solsat?
Yes you can We currently have clients in Norway,Hungary Turkey Morocco, Estonia,Poland and the Czech Republic.Dont forget you will have to pay import duty on any shipment from a Eu counrty.
I live in an apartment in the centre of Madrid and I think Im going to have problems getting permission to put a 1.2mtr dish on the communal roof area. Can I still have Sky Digital?
Yes you can. if your private patio is south facing we can install a smaller dish on your patio and you will be able to receive at least the
Family Pack range of Channels.
My neighbour says that I will need to have my Satellite Digibox connected to a UK telephone line for it to work. Is that true?He sits in local bar most of the day and he seems to know a lot about everything...
Absolute rubbish! The telephone connection to the rear of the digibox has nothing to do with the recievable satellite signal from the Satellite Dish. The telephone connection is for UK viewers to access interactive services such as shop on line and pay per view services such as the box office channels.
Ive read thru youre website and understand all the information re channels available. However I live in Madrid(Paris,Rome,Bucharest,Rabat,Prague, Oslo etc) I currently have my own digibox and viewing card I installed it myself but i still cant get half the channels that I pay for on my subscription. Is my box faulty?
Most of the current crop of Sky Digiboxes offered for sale will work very well anywhere in Europe north of Barcelona. However if youre in a fringe reception area such as the Costa Blanca,Balearics,Malta,Morocco, then the make and model of the digibox you have is critical.A Panasonic 31 for example is no good in Madrid.Dish size and more importantly alignment and setup of the correct type of lnb is also important wherever you are.It can take upto 4 hours in a fringe area to correctly install a Sky Digibox with a good quality dish of the right size. If youre in a campsite in Benidorm and want to watch Sky Movies on your 60cm mesh dish with a Panasonic 31 forget it!
Can I use a Sky Plus digibox outside the UK and if so what are the restrictions if any?
Yes you can use a Sky+ Digibox outside the UK.You will need a satellite dish with a twin universal lnb with two cables running down from the dish to the Sky+ Digibox.A Sky+ Digibox will not record, playback store etc any channels until the "record" facility is activated on the Sky Digital viewing card inserted in the Sky+ digibox. You will not be able to access any of the online services such as box office unless the Sky+ Digibox is connected to a UK telephone line. Other than that it will work fine on the continent.
Can I use the record facility on a Sky Plus Digibox without a viewing card?
No sorry. You will need a Sky Subscription viewing card for the record facility to be activated by Sky. You can subscribe to Sky on their minimum package option (Value Pack) and then pay an additional 16 euros per month for the record facility to be activated. If you subscribe to Sky with a top tier subscription then the record facility will be activated and useable free of charge.
Can I use the record facility on a Sky Plus Digibox with a ITV viewing card?
No sorry. You can only use the record facility when the service is activated by Sky via their subscription viewing card .
